Inspiration + Modern Southwest Design
/I am so excited to share this design post today! Modern Southwestern decor is everything I love about design...clean lines, bright pops of color, fun patterns and textures.
I grew up in NM, and just recently moved to OR. I grew up with this amazing southwestern design, all around me. My grandparents traveled a lot, and they both had this love for Mexican, South American and Native American design. In the 50's my grandfather bought a coffee farm in Brazil, so they would travel there often. They would bring home these amazing paintings, and textiles, and one of a kind artisan pieces, and they filled their home beautifully. This was a home, that with the profit from his first crop, my grandfather built for my grandmother. Modern, mostly white walls, were the backdrop for large pieces of art. One of my favorites, a piece bought on the streets of Mexico City for $20, not to mention, the beautiful Navajo and Apache pottery that filled the shelves. I remember being little, and just being in awe of everything, it was like a museum, and my grandma knew every story behind every piece. I am lucky enough to have some of those pieces in my home. Stay tuned for posts featuring my casa.
That home is where I learned to love design. When I studied interior design at AIC, we learned to identify your own style, and that is when I found a love for modern lines and mid-century decor. Today, I wanted to show you some beautiful, inspiring, modern southwest design from around the web.
This living room is gorg! I love the traditional geometric patterns, and the simple color scheme. This rug is beautiful too! Pretty smart idea to hang the big piece of art with simple binder clips- creating a completely effortless design. (via Nest Together)
Painting a wall black, is a bold move. It absolutely works in this space though. The bright rug pops, and brings everything together. I love the wood tones and the simple washi tape artwork. (via Brit+Co)
Wicker, woven blanket, natural wood...this has it all. I love the simple geometric decor on the shelves, and even the books are on trend. The different sized planters and vases fill out the bookcase well. Love this look! (via Emily Henderson)
Ok, so obviously I could never own a white couch, well at least not til' these kids go off to college. A girl can dream, right? This rug tho! I love the contrast against all this white. Sheer curtains and a simple arrow wall, keep the room feeling light and airy. And that pom-pom pillow- super cute! (via Style Me Pretty)
This room is kinda a mix of several different styles, but it totally works! The industrial curtain rods mix well with the classic chandelier. And surprisingly, the southwestern pillows go well with the contemporary rug. (via Thoughts From Alice)
I absolutely love everything about this space. The wall color is amazing, and daring. This reminds me of like 70's modern, with a blend of earth tones, bohemian style and just the right amount of industrial design. The baskets are obviously beautiful, and the bar ware is ultra modern and chic. The southwestern inspired rug pulls everything together. (via Achica Living)
I hope you loved this modern southwest decor round up! Have you found your style yet? I would love to hear from you.
